Truly reversible handknit fabrics are magical; they have no right or wrong side. Both sides of the fabric look exactly alike, so when hanging next to each other, they are indistinguishable. The dearth of reversible stitch patterns -- rib, seed and moss notwithstanding -- has meant that reversible fabrics are not part of a knitter's usual repertoire. However, with the publication of her latest book, Reversible Knitting: A Handbook and Stitch Dictionary, Cecelia Campochiaro has filled this void with more than 300 reversible stitch patterns. In addition, her original insight into the structure of reversible knitted fabric is both a guide to their creation and an inspiration to imagine even more.
Cecelia is especially fond of our Merino for the way it reflects light and underscores the texture of her reversible fabrics. With that in mind, she paired our CL Merino 5 with two mirrored stitch patterns from Reversible Knitting to create the Mirror Shawl. She has very generously made the pattern available to us for a limited number of kits prior to its publication later in the spring.
The shawl is a luxuriously-sized rectangle that features Pennant Pleating mirrored with itself. The stitch pattern is perfectly symmetrical and the fabric is perfectly reversible, yet each half of the shawl reflects light differently, disrupting the uniform symmetry of the pattern and enhancing the texture and dimensionality of the fabric.
The shawl is worked in CL Merino 5 at a gauge that produces a fabric with wonderful drape and heightened texture. We've chosen eight colors, each one for its ability to enhance the inherent texture of the stitch pattern.
Kits for Mirror Shawl are limited and will be available through Feb 8, 2026, or until they are sold out, whichever comes first. Kits ordered from 9 am EDT Dec 1 through midnight EDT Dec 7, 2025, will be treated as pre-orders with guaranteed shipping from Dec 9 - Dec 15. Orders placed after Dec 7 will ship after Dec 15 along with our regular orders.
Each kit includes enough CL Merino 5 to complete the shawl following the pattern directions, with additional yardage for swatching; a copy of Cecelia’s pattern, which will be delivered as a pdf file when the kit ships; and free domestic shipping via USPS Priority Mail. Complete swatching, blocking and care information specific to CL Merino and separate from the pattern is also included in each kit. Please refer to this information for additional notions not noted in the pattern.
