A non-medical grade mask designed to extend across the bottom half of the face from ear to ear, covering the nose, mouth and chin completely. Short stockinette sections at the bottom and top help the mask fit and hug the chin and neck and sit comfortably under the eyes. It is intentionally wider than the usual face mask to increase its comfort and to help it stay in place without slipping up or down on the face. The earloops offer greater comfort than elastic or ties and allow the mask to be secured in place quickly with little effort. The pattern directions include a lining that will increase both the protection afforded and the comfort level.

The finished measurements are taken with the central horizontal rib section relaxed and not stretched vertically. They reflect the dimensions of the mask at its vertical and horizontal center; they do not take into account the change in the height of the mask at the side edges once it has been shaped, nor do they include the additional width added by the earloops. To determine the correct size, measure the face from ear to ear across the bridge of the nose. Subtract 1"/2.5 cm for toddlers and younger children, 1.5"/3.8 cm for older children, and 2"/5 cm for adults. The fit can be further adjusted by shortening or lengthening the earloops.
