Retreats

Retreats offer knitters a chance to refresh, refine and expand their repertoire of couture knitting techniques in a relaxed setting and in the company of like-minded knitters.

Fall Couture Knitting Retreat

The annual Fall Couture Knitting Retreat is regularly scheduled over a four-day weekend in early-to-mid November. During the Retreat and according to the requests of the participants, Catherine conducts informal discussions and demonstrations of the various couture techniques she uses in the knitting, construction and finishing of her designs and is available for individual consultations and problem-solving.

The Fall Retreat welcomes all knitters; however, because of its nature, it is best suited to those already familiar with the techniques of couture knitting through prior workshop experience or through Catherine’s designs. For knitters working on one of her designs or on a project that incorporates some of the techniques of couture knitting, the Retreat provides an ideal opportunity to work on the project with Catherine close at hand. For knitters familiar with her couture knitting techniques through her articles in Vogue Knitting Magazine or The Ravell’d Sleeve, the Retreat offers the occasion for demonstration, in-depth discussion and hands-on practice.

The Eleventh Annual Fall Couture Knitting Retreat will take place from November 5-8, 2010, at Catherine’s studio in East Chatham  NY.

Spring Couture Knitting Retreat

Focusing on the basic couture construction and finishing techniques that are the signature of Catherine’s designs, the Annual Spring Couture Knitting Retreat takes place over a weekend in April. Discussion of these techniques is conducted in the context of their use in the construction and finishing of a garment; participants arrive with a project in hand, the knitting done and the pieces blocked and ready for construction.

Because the Retreat has a specific focus, a project that incorporates at least several of these techniques will afford the participant maximum benefit. Knitters intending to bring one of Catherine’s designs to the Retreat should allow ample time to complete the pieces; knitters intending to bring an original design or a project worked from a commercial pattern may wish to consult with Catherine before embarking on their project to ensure that it is consistent with the focus of the Retreat.

As yet, no date or location has been set for the 2011 Spring Retreat.
